Catching Fire is the second book of the Hunger Games Trilogy, beginning right where The Hunger Games left off.
The book begins a few weeks after Katniss and Peeta arrive back at District Twelve. They are both trying to return to their regular lives after the horrors that they eperienced in the Hunger Games. But since they’ve gotten home, a lot of things have changed for Katniss. Peeta has not talked to Katniss since he found out that she was not one hundred percent true about her feelings towards him, when they were in the arena. Gale has also been very distant from Katniss as well.
Besides the fact that both of her closest friends are not talking to her, Katniss has to recuperate and slowly ease herself back into society after being in the arena for many weeks. Soon after she gets back to District Twelve, Katniss and Peeta have to go off on a tour of all the districts and the Capitol. On the tour, Peeta and Katniss reconnect and become good friends. They nearly get back to the same relationship status that they held during the Hunger Games as well. At the same time, Katniss’ relationship with Gale is growing into more than just best friends.
But everything changes when President Snow announces that in a special twist of events, the tributes chosen for this year’s Hunger Games will be the winners of previous Hunger Games winners.
Of the three books in the Hunger Games Trilogy, Catching Fire is by far the best. It takes the characters and their relationships to a whole new level. The book dives right into the story, without a filler into, since the back story has already been told in the Hunger Games. The story has even more surprises than the Hunger Games, leaving the reader so enthralled with the book that they are sure to have their breath taken away. The book, like its predecessor, is amazingly detailed. And the book makes the reader feel as if they are in the story with Katniss.
